On Thursday 11th May, we joined Inter Care for their 9th annual golf day at the Leicestershire Golf Club and were welcomed onto the green by blue skies and sunshine.
Founded in 1974 by two Leicester-based GPs, Inter Care is a unique charity that recycles surplus medicines and medical supplies and donates them to rural health units in some of the poorest parts of Africa. The doctors realised that the huge amount of medical materials doomed to waste in the UK could be redirected to meet the urgent need for medical supplies in many areas of sub-Saharan Africa. Today, Inter Care continues to donate essential medicines and medical supplies to hospitals, health centres, infirmaries, orphanages and other health units across six sub-Saharan African countries.
Inspired by Inter Care’s mission, we not only joined in with 19 other teams to get stuck into playing some golf but we also sponsored the Longest Drive award, which was won by Craig Johnson from Blaby Networking Group with a distance of 320 yards!
The day was a great success and ultimately raised a total of £2,000 for Inter Care – a result we can all be proud of.
We want to say a big thank you to Inter Care for organising such a brilliant charity event – we look forward to attending the Harrogate day later in the year and taking part in the next golf day in 2018!
